Driving Dynamics
4-Cylinder Engine
No doubt about it, the emphasis is always on refinement. Including an engine-mount system and vibration-reducing balance shaft. With a high-energy 175-hp engine for 180 lb-ft of torque, performance is even more responsive, and new microfinishing techniques keep things silky through the rev range.
V6 Engine
Altima's powerful 270-hp VQ 3.5 litre V6 comes on strong to ensure its legendary status. As a 13-time star on the "10 Best Engines" by Ward's, it is all about being first, right out of the gate. An advanced valve timing control system works over a wider rpm range for greater low-end torque and a rush to redline. A 6-point engine-mount system reduces engine vibration. Thanks to acoustic tuning, unwanted noise is limited, allowing the bold sound of pure power to speak out.
Xtronic CVT™
Virtually gearless. A zillion variable gear ratios. It's goodbye to gears with Altima's revolutionary Xtronic CVT™ (Continuously Variable Transmission). This flexible metal belt creates a virtually "gearless" transmission. With infinitely variable ratios, Xtronic CVT™ custom-tailors the engine's response to meet your demands. Unlike conventional automatic transmissions that experience gear hunting or shift shock, when you press on the accelerator, the CVT maintains engine speed so you're always in the sweetest part of the power band with amazing smoothness. Ease up on the accelerator and CVT holds the rpm amazingly low, for fuel efficient cruising. Slide Altima's shift lever over and enjoy manual-style fun, nudging the lever forward or tapping it back to alter the transmission ratios.
6 – Speed Manual Transmission
Foot off. Foot on. Shift into thrill. Six speeds are always better than five. Thrills beckon from a grin-inducing first gear takeoff all the way up to a long-legged top gear for quiet, economical cruising. On V6 models, you'll find triple–cone synchros (most cars have only two) for ultra-smooth shifts, and a close–ratio transmission geared to maximize power by reducing rpm drop between gears. The result is serious performance that's also incredibly fun to drive.
Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)
Available VDC constantly monitors for the unexpected and can help set you straight if it senses the onset of understeer or oversteer, the VDC system brakes individual wheels to help keep you on your steered course.
Traction Control System (TCS)
V6 models feature TCS electronic traction control. When it senses a front wheel slipping or spinning, this helps reduce engine power and/or apply the front brakes.
Braking Technologies
Standard ABS helps provide added control under emergency braking. Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) constantly monitors weight distribution, whether passengers or cargo, and adjusts rear brake force for balanced braking power.
Aluminum Suspension
Lighter is better, and aluminum components equal more agility, since they reduce the weight of the suspension. Separate springs and shocks means less friction, allowing road response without compromise. Combined with an all-new platform, the Altima Coupe offers up a solid, controlled handling experience.
Safety
Nissan Advanced Airbag System (AABS)
Nissan Advanced Airbag System* (AABS) includes dual-stage supplemental front airbags with seat belt sensors and an occupant classification sensor. The inflation rate of these dual-stage air bags adjust depending on crash severity and seat belt usage. If the front passenger seat is empty, a sensor will deactivate the front air bag.
Side-Impact Airbags*
Standard side-impact supplemental air bags are built into the front seat, so they move with you, while front-seat Active Head Restraints move up and forward during a rear-end collision, helping reduce the chances of whiplash-type injuries.
Zone Body Construction incorporates a high-intensity cabin structure with crossmembers and reinforcements. Front and rear crumple zones help absorb impact energy before it reaches the passenger compartment. Energy-absorbing steering column compresses during certain frontal impacts to help reduce the likelihood of injury.
Hood Buckling Creases allow the hood to buckle at predetermined points, helping prevent it from intruding into the passengers compartment in certain frontal impacts.
Active Front-Seat Head Restraints move up and forward during a rear-end collision, helping reduce the chances of whiplash-type injuries to front-seat passengers. Front seat belts with pre-tensioners automatically help tighten the belts when the airbags deploy, and load limiters help give a little, when too much force is put on the belt.
