Four links in the rear, separate placement of the rear springs and shocks, and extensive use of aluminum components in the front and rear suspension. Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)*
Curvy roads are certainly exciting, and now, quite possibly more predictable. With Maxima’s available Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)1, your steering and braking actions are continuously being monitored and compared to your actual path. So if your vehicle begins to oversteer (fishtail) or understeer (plow forward), VDC senses the change and can reduce the engine output and/or apply appropriate brake pressure to specific wheels.

Traction Control System (TCS)
All the power in the world is useless if you can’t get any grip. So when Maxima’s standard Traction Control System (TCS) senses a front wheel slip or spin, it responds by reducing throttle and/or upshifting the transmission. Helping you feel more self-assured, no matter what the road condition. TCS is also an all-speed technology, effective whether you’re going 40 or 100 km/h.
Balance
Passion in the balance. Few manufactures talk about it. But balance is crucial to performance. That’s why every Maxima strives for the ideal combination between the faster reaction of a light weight suspension; the precision response of speed sensitive-steering; the stability of a sway bar; and the superb ride quality of different springs rates for front and rear.
Brake Technologies
Who said slowing down can’t be as exhilarating as speeding up? Impressive performance demands impressive braking power. So when it came time to choose brakes for Maxima, only performance disc brakes with massive 12.6” front rotors would do. Maxima also features an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to help prevent brakes from locking up. Plus Brake Assist Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD).
Safety
Nissan Advanced Airbag System
Up front, Nissan's Advanced Airbag System* (AABS) includes dual-stage supplemental front airbags equipped with seat belt sensors and an occupant-classification sensor. These dual-stage airbags adjust their inflation rate, depending on the severity of impact and seat belt use. If the front-passenger seat is empty, a sensor actually deactivates that airbag. In addition, standard side-impact supplemental airbags are built into the front seat, so they move with you as you adjust the seat. Above, standard roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental airbags help protect front and rear outboard passengers.
*Airbags are only a supplemental restraint system; always wear your seat belt. Even with the occupant-classification sensor, rear-facing child restraints should not be placed in the front-passenger's seat. Also, in addition to any other requirement of applicable law, all children 12 and under should ride in the rear seat properly secured in child restraints, booster seats, or seat belts according to their size. Another Nissan first. U.S. NHTSA-certified ‘Child Passenger Safety’ technicians have dedicated over 1,000 man-hours to checking over 4,000 child seat installations in Nissans. Pre-Tensioners
The front seat belts utilize pre-tensioners, which help tighten the belt when front airbags deploy. And if your body puts too much force on the belt, load limiters give a little bit to help protect you. What’s more, active head restraints help reduce the chance of whiplash-type injuries to front-seat passengers by moving up and forward during certain rear-end collisions.
Rear Sonar System
An available rear sonar system* emits a beeping sound when obstacles are detected up to six feet away. The frequency of the beeping increases the closer you get.
*Standard in the 3.5 SL and is available on the 3.5 SE with Leather Package. The optional rear sonar system is a convenience, but is not a substitute to proper backing procedures. Always turn and check that it is safe to do so before backing up. The optional rear sonar system may not detect every object behind you.
LATCH LATCH is another way we’re working to help keep children safe. The Maxima LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) lets you secure LATCH-compatible child restraints in the back seat without having to use seat belts or a locking clip.
Confidence Builders
Zone Body Construction incorporates a high-intensity cabin structure with crossmembers and reinforcements. Front and rear crumple zones help absorb impact energy before it reaches the passenger compartment.
Hood Buckling Creases allow the hood to buckle at predetermined points, helping prevent it from intruding into the passenger compartment in certain frontal impacts.
High-Strength Steel Side-Door Guard Beams are welded into every door. These beams help protect you and your passengers in the event of side impacts.
Energy-Absorbing Steering column compresses during certain frontal impacts to help reduce the likelihood of injury.
