Nissan Sentra SE-R
Overview
Blood Type SE-R.
Sentra SE-R is not just the ultimate Sentra, it is the ultimate sport compact car. So of course it took a legendary track to test - Germany's Nürburgring. 21 kilometers, 73 bends. One unrelenting test for the Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V.
Exterior
Headlights The Sentra looks distinctive, even in the dark. The design features the conjunction of chrome and colour into something jewel-like and dynamic. The headlights project a two-tier design, positioning the turn signal lamps inside a chrome framework while setting off the high-powered halogens for both looks and luminescence.
Taillights
Sentra’s clear-lens taillights add to the Sentra’s sleek appearance. The taillight elements shape light and colour into a visual signature that is unmistakably Nissan.
Wheels
This is where real drivers separate from wanna-be's. The road. And to get the most out of it, SE-R delivers with sport-tuned springs, lightweight 17” aluminum-alloy wheels. V-rated low profile all-season tires and fade-resistant 4-wheel disc brakes. SE-R Spec V ups the ante with increased spring rates, revised shock and strut damping, and awesome stopping power of massive 12.6” ventilated front rotors. Turn the wheel and you’ll feel the added grip of available W-rated tires with an aggressive asymmetrical tread design.
Interior
Cockpit
Quick read. Start with a unique G-metre that measures braking and acceleration. Add the passion of red chrome-accented gauges and red stitching on the seats and steering wheel. The result is immediately recognizable - Pureblooded SE-R performance.
Sport Bucket Seats
73 bends, 1 perfect driving position. Super smooth tarmac to broken concrete. Off camber turns. Blind hills. And don’t forget four seasons of weather. The Nürburgring is a roller coaster ride of epic proportions. Good thing you’ve got the best seat in the house.
Driving Dynamics
It’s a Match Made in Heaven Over 2 kilometers of wide-open road straightaway and the Sentra SE-R, flashing past Antoniusbuche, the SE-R Spec V’s 200 HP, 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine is in full song. With modified Continuously Variable Valve Timing for a wider power band, new friction-reducing technologies (including super-slick DLC valve coating), and a resin single-intake manifold directing air through a single lightweight free-flow exhaust, it’ll make any driver a believer.
Xtronic CVT™ Transmission with Paddle Shifters Shifting is a serious business. Steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters of the SE-R’s Xtronic CVT™ (Continuously Variable Transmission) are clearly Formula One-inspired. The virtual “gearless” CVT constantly adjusts its ratios, allowing the transmission to hold the rpm in the sweet spot for maximum thrust and smooth power.
6 Degrees of Exhilaration
With the SE-R Spec V’s 6-speed close-ratio transmission, you’re always in the meat of the power band. To handle the big motor’s mountain of torque, you’ll find race-bred technology, including triple-cone synchros and a dual-mass flywheel. Aluminum pedal pads with rubber inserts are perfect marriage of form and function.
Suspension
It’s called the “Carousel,” no kids allowed. A hairpin turn with a 30° bank, the Karussell puts high loads on the chassis. The SE-R Spec V responds with a trunk-mounted V-brace to reinforce the chassis and get the maximum out of its sport-tuned shocks, springs and struts.
Brakes 12.6” front rotors, another reason to love big breaks. To clear the large brakes and make sure they get plenty of cooling air, the SE-R wears lightweight 17” alloy wheels. Spec V models enjoy the added grip of available W-rated tired with an aggressive asymmetrical tread design.
Safety
Snug Kids®
Another Nissan first U.S. NHTSA-certified ‘Child Passenger Safety’ Technicians have dedicated over 1000 man-hours to checking over 4000 child seat installations in Nissans. The Snug Kids® Child Safety Seat Fit Guide lists child seats that fit the rear seats of Nissan vehicles, as well as offers invaluable tips on correct installation.
Nissan's Advanced Airbag System (AABS)
This comprehensive system includes dual-stage supplemental front airbags with seat belt sensors and an occupant-classification sensor. The inflation rate of these dual-stage airbags adjusts depending on crash severity and seat belt usage. If the front seat is empty, a sensor will deactivate the airbag.1
Standard Side-Impact Airbags Sentra’s driver and front-passenger side-impact supplemental airbags are actually built into the seats, so they move with you as you adjust the seat position.1
Standard Side-Curtain Airbags These help protect front and rear outboard passengers in side-impact collisions.
1Airbags are only a supplemental restraint system; always wear your seat belt. Even with the occupant-classification sensor, rear-facing child restraints should not be placed in the front-passenger's seat. Also, in addition to any other requirement of applicable law, all children 12 and under should ride in the rear seat properly secured in child restraints, booster seats, or seat belts according to their size. Airbags will only inflate in certain accidents; see your owner's manual for more details.
Front-Seat Active Head Restraints By moving up and forward in the event of a rear-end collision, Sentra’s active head restraints help reduce whiplash-type injuries to front-seat occupants.
Seat Belts
Still your primary restraint system, Sentra’s front seat belts feature pre-tensioners that automatically help tighten the belts when the airbags deploy, as well as load limiters that help give a little when too much force is put on the belt.
Body Construction
Pipe-Style Steel Guard Beams are welded into every door to help protection in the event of side impacts.
Hood Buckling Crease allow the hood to buckle at predetermined points, to help prevent it from intruding into the passenger compartment in certain frontal impacts.
Energy-Absorbing Steering Column helps reduce the likelihood of injury in certain frontal impacts.
Front and Rear Crumple Zones helps absorb impact energy.
