Nissan Xterra
Overview
ROCK YOUR ELEVATION.
Take advantage of a 261 HP V6 and fully boxed steel ladder frame to get going. Bring Bluetooth®along. Versatility and spontaneity forge a hard-core bond. A roof rack ups your options, rear bumper steps get you there. It's all about the adrenaline, and the locking rear differential. Stash the damp and dirty, but clean up easy with a wipe-down rear cargo area. A higher purpose? Constant motion. The Nissan Xterra. The word "maybe" no longer exists.
Exterior
Fender Flares
Xterra's extra-wide fender flares are completely integrated - stamped out of high-carbon steel, not glued on as a separate piece.
Skid Plates
Most of Xterra's vital components are tucked above the frame level. Plus, there are strategically placed skid plates that offer protection from the rocks below. This helps protect the exterior finish and accentuates the aggressive styling. If only your friends were this tough.
The Bumps
Bump in back: outside, it's an Xterra trademark. Inside, it's the perfect nest for the first-aid kit. Bump on top: notice the way Xterra's roof line bumps up at the rear seats? Xterra's rear seats are set a few inches higher than the front seats (we call it stadium-style seating). So to give you the headroom you need, we raised the roof. Literally.
Ladder Frame
Anchoring Xterra is a fully boxed ladder frame. It features super-high tensile-strength steel in key areas, which is 90% stronger and 22% lighter than conventional steel. And over miles of rugged terrain like this, its solid framework allows the suspension to do the twisting. So your frame doesn't have to.
Roof Rack
This tubular sensation features an aluminum construction with a gear box perfect for storing wet, dirty stuff. The gear box's latched lid stays open when you're loading it (even in a stiff wind), and is easily removed for larger items. Something this functional will definitely get used. And knowing the messes you get into, it'll definitely need a good hosing down. No problem. We've built in bumper steps on each side to make getting up to the roof rack a breeze.
Step Rails
The tubular aluminum design step rails* are a great match with the roof rack; they also provide easier step-in, and are a helpful boost when you're loading the roof rack.
*On S and SE Models only
Bumper Steps
The rear bumper steps are located on both sides of the vehicle to help you put gear up onto the roof rack, or wash it down after a four hour mud bath.
Interior
Versatile Interior
Today's forecast: Sea kayaking. Tomorrow: Who knows? Good thing Xterra's highly versatile interior is predictable. Stadium-style seating in the second row split-folds 60/40 for passenger and cargo alike. Or folds flat without having to remove a cushion or head restraint. Even the front passenger seat bows in the presence of long boards.
Easy Clean Cargo Area
Go ahead. Get dirty. Xterra's Easy Clean cargo area can take it, and then some. Instead of carpet, you'll find a surface that's free of any trace of muddy trails after just a few swipes. And it extends to the back of the second-row seats. There's even cargo storage hiding underneath for those times you want to separate your clean gear from the dirty.
Hooks and Clips
Endless possibilities times ten. Four in the floor. Four more in the ceiling. One on each side of the walls. Most important, where you need them most to secure your gear. The possibilities are nearly endless. How you use them is up to you. Just promise us you will.
Utili-Track™Cargo Channel System
Bring it. Xterra's got a spot for it. Doesn't matter what shape or size. With up to 1869 litres (66 cu. ft.) of cargo space, and the easy-to-use Utili-track™ Cargo Channel System, tying down gear is a cinch. Two channels built into the floor house two adjustable cleats, meaning more gear can come along.
Rockford Fosgate Audio System
Car audio for fanatics! Xterra's available Rockford Fosgate-powered audio system¹ features an in-dash 6-CD changer with nine strategically placed speakers, including enclosed subwoofers. It's custom-tuned to Xterra's interior. So you'll get the maximum effect, no matter what your position.

Steering Wheel
Xterra's steering wheel is thick and comfortable to grip. For your convenience, the Off Road and SE models come equipped with audio controls built right in to the leather wrapped steering wheel. You'll never need, or want, to take your hands off the wheel again.
Satin-Chrome Gauge Trim
Available on Xterra SE the satin-chrome gauge trim is a great match for Xterra's rugged exoskeleton.
First-aid Kit
As iconic as the roof rack, the First Aid Kit remains, nestled in its very own nook. Waiting to help you tend to the newest batch of bumps and bruises.
Standard on all models.
Power Outlet
The S model features 4 12-volt DC power outlets, one in the lower dash, two in the centre console, and one in the rear cargo area. Great for an air pump, cell phone or a laptop. (Off-Road and SE models feature 3 power outlets with 2 "live").
The auxiliary input on SE and Off-Road models with Rockford Fosgate audio system replaces one of the power outlets.
Driving Dynamics
4.0-litre V6 Engine
There's a fine line between almighty and insane. No matter how you slice it, Xterra delivers. A potent 24-valve DOHC V6 that gives you 261 HP plus at least that many more reasons to climb higher. Add in 281 lb-ft of torque and you'll experience a real kick in the pants.
Transmission
Gear head. You know the benefits of both manual and automatic transmissions. There's a performance-
geared 5-speed automatic¹ for those who prefer their equipment to do part of the work. And for the purist, Xterra serves up a 6-speed manual² with triplecone synchros in second gear.
¹Standard on SE; available on S and Off-Road models. ²S and Off-Road only.
Shift-on-the-fly 4-Wheel Drive
East. West. Up or down. Let your sense of purpose overpower your sense of direction. 2WD for the flat stretches. Shift-on-the-fly 4-Wheel Drive when things get tough. Off the beaten path? Xterra's massive off-road tires earn extra stick from an electronic locking rear differential¹, made even more potent when teamed up with 4-wheel Limited Slip (ABLS). It's plenty to put more distance between you and the wanna-bes.
¹ Off-Road model only
Electronic Locking Rear Differential
Some terrain is so extreme even the rescue guys think twice. That's where you need to be. Xterra's available electronic locking rear differential¹can help you get out there and conquer it. If you need extra grip along the way, just flip the switch and equal power goes to both rear wheels to boost traction.
¹ Standard on Off Road model only.
Suspension
Lighten up, they're heavy-duty. Xterra's steel double-wishbone front suspension and stabilizer bar, plus its rigid leaf spring rear suspension, help soak up even the nastiest rocks and washboard. Off Road models benefit from Bilstein® off-road performance
shocks, the brand of choice for serious 4-wheelers.
Bilstein® is a registered trademark of August-Bilstein GmbH & Co.
Hill Start Assist (HSA)
Hill Start Assist¹ works on the uphill swing to help prevent rolling backward when you're starting from a stop on an incline. This system applies the brakes for a few seconds, allowing you enough time to switch from the brake pedal to the accelerator.
¹Off-Road model with Automatic Transmission.
Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)
Stay on your steered path with the help of Xterra's standard Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)¹. If your vehicle begins to oversteer (fishtail) or understeer (plow forward), this advanced system can help compensate by reducing engine output and/or applying appropriate brake pressure to specific wheels to help maintain vehicle control. Xterra is also equipped with large disc brakes and ABS at all four corners. Plus, the ABS on your 4x4 model comes with a G-sensor that knows what type of surface you're driving on and applies brake pressure accordingly.
¹VDC cannot prevent accidents due to abrupt steering, carelessness, or dangerous driving techniques, or any other reason. Always drive safely.
4-Wheel Limited Slip (ABLS)
When 4x4 mode just isn't enough, activate the electronic locking rear differential¹. This technology delivers equal power to both rear wheels to boost traction and help keep your Xterra moving forward. It actually works in conjunction with the 4-wheel Limited Slip (ABLS). So while the electronic locking differential keeps the rear wheels powered to move ahead, ABLS gives you the traction up front to help you keep on steering.
¹Standard on Off Road Models only
Safety
Nissan Safety Shield
Put yourself out there with confidence. Elevate your peace of mind. Protect your cargo, especially the precious kind. The Nissan Safety Shield is our comprehensive approach to safety. It includes rigorous crash testing, over 50 standard safety features on every vehicle, available advanced safety technologies, and child-safety programs like Snug Kids®. In Xterra, an Advanced Airbag System and available side-impact and roof-mounted curtain supplemental airbags for side-impact and rollover protection are just a few of the examples of our safety philosophy in action.
Nissan Advanced Airbag System (AABS)
Six standard airbags. Nissan's Advanced Airbag System (AABS)¹ includes dual-stage supplemental front airbags that incorporate seat belt sensors and an occupant-classification sensor. The airbag deployment adjusts according to seat belt usage and crash severity.
¹Airbags are only a supplemental restraint system; always wear your seat belt. Even with the occupant-classification sensor, rear-facing child restraints should not be placed in the front-passenger's seat. Also, in addition to any other requirement of applicable law, all children 12 and under should ride in the rear seat properly secured in child restraints, booster seats, or seat belts according to their size. Airbags will only inflate in certain accidents; see your owner's manual for more details.
Roof-Mounted Curtain and Side-Impact Supplemental Airbags
Standard side-impact supplemental airbags¹ are built into the front seats, so they move with you as you adjust the seat. Above, standard roof-mounted curtain side-impact supplemental airbags¹ provide enhanced side impact and rollover protection. What's more, every Xterra is equipped with a rollover sensor. When it detects an impending rollover, the system deploys the curtain airbags to help provide enhanced protection for outboard occupants.
¹ Airbags are only a supplemental restraint system; always wear your seat belt. Inflated airbags shown for illustration purposes only. Actual airbags deflate after deployment.
Seat Belts
In the Xterra, the front seat belts are equipped with pre-tensioners that automatically help tighten the belt when the airbag deploys. There is also a load limiter that gives a little if your body puts too much force on the belt. Xterra also features 3-point ALR/ELR seat belts in the outboard passenger positions, which allows you to install a child restraint without the use of a locking clip.
Active Front Head Restraints
Active front head restraints actually move up and forward in the event of a rear-end collision, helping reduce whiplash-style injuries to you and your front passenger.
Child Safety
Child-safety rear door locks help prevent children from accidentally opening the rear doors. The LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) lets you secure a LATCH-compatible child restraint without using the seat belts.
Snug Kids
Another Nissan first. U.S. NHTSA-certified ‘Child Passenger Safety' Technicians have dedicated over 1000 hours to checking over 4000 child seat installations in Nissans. The result: An industry first, The Snug Kids Child Safety Seat Fit Guide. This guide lists child seats that fit the rear seats of Nissan vehicles, as well as offers invaluable tips on correct installation. Look for it at your nearest retailer.
Pipe-Syle Steel Side-Door Guard Beams
Constructed like a thick-walled hollow pipe for extra strength, these help protect passengers in a side impact.
Zone Body Construction with Crumple Zones
This helps to absorb crash energy before it reaches the passenger zone. In addition, structural creases allow the hood to buckle at predetermined points to help protect the passenger zone.
Anti-Theft System
Xterra's Anti-theft System flashes the headlights and sounds the horn if there's any attempt to open the doors or hood without a key, or remove key cylinders. Using the keyfob, you can also push the panic button to sound the alarm for 20 seconds.
