2019 Mazda CX-5

2019 Mazda CX-5

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 was completely redesigned last year and was quickly recognized by the automotive press, notably by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada, which awarded the CX-5 the title of Best SUV in its class this year. One of the few compact SUVs that's really fun to drive, the Mazda CX-5 also stands out in terms of versatility and fuel economy thanks to its SKYACTIV engines.

Plenty of Equipment in the Mazda CX-5

Before talking about the engines of the 2019 Mazda CX-5, let's talk about its versions and equipment, especially its entry-level equipment. Starting at $25,800, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 is one of the most affordable compact SUVs in its class, but that does not mean it has less equipment. In reality, it's the opposite.

Indeed, the entry-level CX-5 offers a very complete equipment list that includes LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, automatic city braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a rear-view camera, keyless entry and a 7-inch centre screen with Mazda Connect infotainment system.

Fuel Economy for the 2019 CX-5’s Engines

As you can see, equipment is not lacking in the 2019 Mazda CX-5. Better still, Mazda's new compact SUV is also fuel efficient with its two SKYACTIV engines. The first, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 156 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque, is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. As a result, the 2019 Mazda CX-5 becomes one of the few SUVs in its class to offer this type of gearbox.

That said, the majority of 2019 Mazda CX-5 buyers will opt for the SKYACTIV 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine developing 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and is very, very fuel-efficient.

Two new engines making their way into the Mazda lineup this year include the new turbocharged four-cylinder 2.5-litre unique which delivers up to 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, and the Mazda CX-5 Diesel signature model.

Indeed, it offers an average fuel consumption rating of 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, and 7.9 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway when it is paired with all-wheel drive. In front-wheel drive versions, fuel consumption is even lower with an average of 9.3 litres per 100 kilometres in the city and 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway.
